Techstream Adds non-remote key to Lexus GX470 2006

Here I’ll chip in words of my experience of Lexus GX470 2006 non-remote key programming with a Techstream cable.

After owning my 2006 GX470 with only 1 key for months, I finally got around to having the spare key made. I did order a cut key off Ebay. If you go this route, read their descriptions carefully. I didn’t have my key code, so I had to pony up a bit extra for the photograph/key code identification service…no big deal, but there was a little confusion. The key did show up quickly and seems to be decent quality.

I ordered the Mini VCI/techstream cable off obdii365.com:

I installed the software on my old Windows XP netbook, following instructions I found on tundratalk.net:

Installation Instructions For Mini VCI

Please make sure your windows system is 32bit(Windows xp or 7), the 64bit system may cause problems.

step1. install “TIS_Techstream_Setup.exe”

step2. After the installation, don’t run the software Techstream,

2.1 Install “MVCI Driver for TOYOTA.msi”

2.2 run the “TISKEY.exe” in CD to Active the software automatically, the Icon “VCXConnect” on desktop is no use, you can delete it.

step3. Run the “Techstream” on desktop,

3.1 Select the area as “Europe”,

3.2 Select the language you want,

3.3 The register information, you can write everything you want, fill all the blank, then OK.

step4. Interface Select

4.1 Click the [Setup] menu, then click the [VIM Select], then select the [Xhorse-MVCI] in the drop down list of “Interface Setup”, then Click [OK]

I did get a virus warning and 1 file quarantined during installation. However, a post-install scan did not find anything wrong. I recommend you use a “junk” computer since the software is of unknown origin  The Techstream software worked great, I was able to add the new key to the immobilizer easily. I also disabled the steering wheel movement that happens when you take the key in/out of the ignition.

After following these instructions to program the remote entry portion of the new key, I was good to go.

(Note that this instruction is for REMOTE BUTTONS ONLY NOT FOR IMMOBILIZER CHIP PROGRAMING)

Free programming instructions for 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 Lexus GX470 Remote keyless entry fob alarm key

Posted on June 30, 2015

You can program the remote portion of your 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 Lexus GX470 yourself at home with this procedure:

**Key must be separately cut and (chip in key) programmed by dealer or locksmith to start the car… this procedure will only program the remote buttons on the key**

Driver’s door open, all other doors closed, key removed from ignition switch.

Within 5 seconds:

Insert and remove the key from the ignition switch twice.

Within 40 seconds:

Close and open driver’s door twice.

Insert and remove the key from the ignition switch.

Within 40 seconds:

Close and open driver’s door twice.

Insert the key into the ignition switch and close the driver’s door.

Switch ignition ON and OFF:

Once to program a key remote transmitter code whilst retaining the original codes.

Twice to program a key remote transmitter code whilst erasing the original codes.

Three times to check how many key remote transmitters are currently registered.

Five times to erase all registered codes.

Remove key from ignition switch.

System should now lock and unlock vehicle once, twice or five times depending which mode has been selected. One to four

times, slowly, to indicate number of remote transmitters registered.

Within 40 seconds:

Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons Fig. 1 or Fig. 2 simultaneously for 1.5 seconds.

Within 3 seconds:

Press and release LOCK or UNLOCK button Fig. 1 or Fig. 2 .

System should now lock and unlock vehicle. Once to confirm registration or twice to indicate registration has failed.

Within 40 seconds:

Repeat button procedure to program remaining key remote transmitters.

NOTE: To exit programming mode: Open driver’s door or insert ignition key.

NOTE: A maximum of 4 key remote transmitters can be programmed.

The whole process took about 1.5 hours (mostly getting software installed) and cost less than $70. The new key works great and I will probably order one more non-remote key, to use as a hide-a-key during wheeling, camping, etc.
