Keydiy KD-X4 Rewrite A Cloned Toyota 8A Smart Key using TIB

What happens when you’ve already cloned a customer’s Toyota 8A P4 BA smart key, and then they decide they don’t want it after all?

The Problem: Cloned Keys and Changed Minds

Anyone who works with key cloning knows the scenario. You’ve completed a clone for a customer, and then they come back and say they no longer want the key. In the past, this might have meant a wasted key and a lost sale. But according to the demonstration, that’s no longer the case—thanks to writable keys like the TIB remote from Keydiy.

The Solution: Rewriting Over an Existing Clone

Even though a key has already been cloned with Keydiy KD-X4, the writable key can still be rewritten with new data. Even though you already cloned that key, if your customer says they don’t want it after the fact, you can still write over it. Because these are the writable keys, the TIBs from Keydiy.

The demonstration shows the key being rewritten with a completely different version—for example, writing a new “3441” onto the key or even programming something different, like a Toyota key. Throughout the process, the red light blinks as the key takes all the data, confirming that the write is in progress.

Automatic Detection and a Whole New ID

Once the rewrite is complete, we return to the chip function, where the system automatically detects the key. The screen displays “BABA” at the top and confirms the detection. Crucially, the demonstration shows that the key now has a completely new ID—the old ID is no longer associated with that key. It generated a whole new ID so this ID is no longer this key. There are two different IDs now.

This is the key takeaway: the writable key can be fully repurposed, and the new ID proves the rewrite was successful.

Practical Benefits for Key Professionals

The implications for locksmiths and key cloning professionals are significant. Instead of being “all upset” when a customer changes their mind, you can simply rewrite the key, put it back in your box, and move on to the next customer. As the presenter notes, “Very very simple to do.”

A Note on Key Shells

As long as it looks okay it fine. Interestingly, the Lexus style is believed to use the same curve board, so it should work in the other shells as well.

Final Thoughts

This is a simple but valuable workflow improvement for anyone in the key cloning business. Writable keys eliminate the waste and frustration of abandoned clones, allowing professionals to rewrite and reuse keys with ease.
