Recently, some customers reported the Xhorse VVDI Key Tool Plus , Keydiy or KYDZ devices can read the original key data from the latest MQB49 5D system on the 2016 Audi A6 or Q5, they are unable to learn key in car even have SFD2 gateway unlocked. The system shows a communication error (control unit cannot be connected) when trying to learn the key. They have tried Xhorse, Autel, Lonsdor and Yanhua ACDP devices, but none of them can complete the key learning process.
Here is the clue.
The latest Audi 5D key fob features ultrasonic sealing, making it extremely difficult to disassemble.
A few customers have tried using the KeyDIY KD-X4 and were able to learn the key in car. SFD2 needs to be unlocked. If the original key comes with UWB functionality, the learned key will not have UWB functionality.
The high configuration new Audi 5D key incorporates MAC address verification for the UWB chip. The three chips on the key board are equipped with UWB functionality.
This is a “long-code” digital key; currently, it cannot be emulated by third-party keys.
For the 2026 Audi A6 / Q5 with this new type of 5D smart key, better do not add a new key by reading the original key data. Doing so may result in the original key also becoming non-functional.
Solution: Order OEM key from dealer and program by ODIS.
