It’s time for me to buy a new advanced MULTI brand device. And i can’t choose. 7 years used the Autel. No experience with Launch. May be need to try the Launch? choice – MS908S Pro, X431 Pad VII or your choice????
~60% – EU cars, ~30% – Asian cars, ~10% – US cars, NO China or RU.
~80% – diagnostic, fault finding; ~10% – IMMO related jobs, ~10% – special(coding, programming) jobs, that need the dealer level equipment(I have a lot). Most of time i use the multibrand scanner.
obdii365.com engineer suggestion:
Update cost: MS908S Pro $795/year, PAD VII $450 /year
Key programming:
– PAD VII is able to program key with X431 GIII Xprog 3.
Autel MS908S Pro can do basic transponder immobilizer, for advanced key programming, you’ll need a separate device, IM508 or IM608 with xp400
Read EEPROM:
Autel MS908S Pro is not working, go for Autel IM608 with xp400 too
Compatible truck models:
– PAD VII is allowed to add heavy duty software license to diagnose truck models
– Autel MS908S Pro: not working, you’ll need a separate device, go for MS909CV HD and Commercial device
Topology Mapping:
– PAD VII: confirmed
– Autel MS908S Pro: not working, go for Autel Ultra / MS919 3rd level diagnostic scanners
Special cars, Australian Ford / Holden, Indican and Russian makes
– PAD VII: confirmed
– Autel MS908S Pro: pay to add
Users’ feedback speaks louder than words:
Part 1. Autel MS908S Pro review
- Autel – I have good experience. Good coverage, in most cases stable connection and most of functions work fine.
MS908S Pro – can’t work with X400Pro programmer(need IM508, IM608).
MS908S Pro – PassTrough support. IM508/IM608 – w/o PassTrough.
MS908S Pro – online coding/programming VAG, MB, BMW.
MS908S Pro – program GM modules and worked every time once your laptop is setup to accommodate the franchise specific platforms. Definitely worth every penny.
MS908S Pro – connects wirelessly to the vehicle interface, so you can easily move the tablet around while troubleshooting and diagnosing sensors and vehicle issues.

Conclusion:
Both Autel and launch brands are known for their professional OBD II scanners. And the two brands have some unique features of their own. However, which brand of device you buy will depend on your decision and budget. Launch X431 Pad VII is much more similar as Autel Ultra no matter what the functions, features and the price.
