Diesel MD1CS089 ECU coming soon.
Here obdii365.com has collected some frequently asked questions from our customers.
Q: What OBDSTAR device supports MD1 MG1 unlocking, and what adapter to use?
A: OBDSTAR X300 Classic G3 with ECU license/DC706 + MPp001 + C4-06 adapter and ECU Master + C4-06 adapter.
*Only ECU Master with HD license will unlock diesel MD1CS089 ECU. DC706 & G3 cannot unlock diesel encrypted ECUs.
Use C4-06 basic kit, no need to be full kit.
Q: Do I need to pay separately to unlock this feature?
A: As long as the device is within the subscription, this feature can be updated online for free. No separate authorization is required.
Q: ECU need to be opened?
A: Yes, need to open ECU and solder the corresponding pins, then unlock in boot mode.
Q: After OBDSTAR unlock, can the ECU be read/written with other programming tools?
A: No, it can only be read and written with OBDSTAR tools.
After the operation is completed and exited, the ECU will automatically return to the locked state.
Q: Does it support BMW ISN reading and modifying?
A: Only supports BMW ISN reading function. ISN modifying is still under development.
Now supports reading and writing ECU eeprom & flash and also does checksum correction for flash.
Q: Also unlock diesel MD1CS089 and MD1CC878 unlock?
A: Supports MD1CS089 unlock. Software is coming soon. MD1CC878 is not yet supported.
Q: Is there any special adapter for MG1/MD1 locked ECUs?
A: OBDSTAR will be rolling out wiring adapters for MG1 and MD1 over time. For now, they have a dedicated harnesses ECM-003 available for B48 and B58.
To connect ECM-003 adapter to the DC706/G3, you will need a bench converter or the P004.
To connect ECM003 to the ECU MASTER, you will need the Bench-D-V1 adapter.
Q: Need to remove resistors?
A: Yes, wiring diagram will show which resistor needs to be removed. It’s a 0.1 ohm resistor. The resistor is 0.1 ohms you can just bridge the two points if you loose it.
Q: Is the ECU data read out in an encrypted format?
A: No. The data is read out as a non-encrypted BIN file.
Q: What are the power supply requirements for ECU unlocking?
A:
It is recommended to use a professional regulated power supply with the following specifications:
-
Power output: at least 60W
-
Voltage output: between 13–14V
If you are using an ECU MASTER device, use the included standard 60W power supply.
Important note: Using an unstable power source may cause voltage fluctuations during the unlocking process, which can lead to ECU damage.
Q: Is the unlocking operation risky? Is it difficult to perform?
A:
Yes, unlocking an ECU carries certain risks and requires a moderate level of technical expertise.
There are three main categories of risk:
1. ECU Shell Opening Risk
Improper opening of the ECU casing can result in physical damage to the outer shell or the internal PCB (printed circuit board).
2. Wiring and Power Supply Risk
If the device loses power during the unlocking process, or if a connection wire becomes detached, the ECU may fail to unlock or become permanently damaged.
Recommendation: Use the B48 B58 ECM-003 adapter, which provides a more stable and reliable connection.
3. Component Risk
The unlocking procedure requires the removal of a very small resistor. During this soldering operation, there is a risk of losing or damaging the component.
Recommendation: This procedure should only be performed by trained or experienced professionals to minimize the risk of errors.
