Attempt to add a spare smart key to a Nissan Kicks 2025, what tool will do? Here comes the user working experience and review.
1). Use Autel and Nissan 40 Pin bypass cable
–Use a remote starter installation guide to find the HFM above the glove box, and spliced into the CAN High and Low wires there.
(The 40-pin adapter for Rogue, Sentra, Pathfinder is similar, but the grooved guides on the connector aren’t the same and it doesn’t go in)
–AutoVIN doesn’t work
–Selecting “Nissan” and then auto scan results in “couldn’t communicate with ECU”
–Selecting “Nissan,” then “Kicks 2024-” results in “couldn’t communicate with ECU”
–Selecting “Nissan,” then “Pathfinder 2023” results in “couldn’t communicate with ECU”
Result: Failed
2). Use Autel IM608, 40 Pin cable and APB131 adapter
2025 Nissan Kicks extra smart key. Doing the job by hand by pulling the HFM module. Then read pin code from HFM dump using APB131 adapter.
Password extracted successfully but no connection to the system.
Result: Failed
3). Autel IM608 + APB131 + CAN FD adapter
When first came to the vehicle, IM608 extracted the pin code within the HFM via eeprom, but there is no OBD communication even with the Nissan 40 bypass cable and so was not able to program the extra remote.
This time came more prepared, had wiring diagrams of the body control module to pinpoint where the CAN pins are. This vehicle has both CAN and CanFD pins and probed both pairs separately.
The combination that worked was probing the low speed canH and canL while also having the Autel CAN FD adapter connected AND going through 2024+ Pathfinder.
So, extract PIN via eeprom, and then connect the Autel’s CANFD adapter’s CAN H+L pins directly to the vehicles CAN H+L lines, instead of thru the OBD (used a chrysler bypass cable for the CAN probes, bypassing firewalls), and attempt process selecting Pathfinder 24.
Result: Succeeded
OBDSTAR:
1).
Tried OBDstar X300 Classic G3 and Nissan 40 pin adapter as well. No communication.
2).
OBDSTAR and RH850 C4-06 adapter, read pin code from HFM dump, cannot extract password ,no connection to the system.
OBDSTAR says 2024/2025 Kicks is not supported yet.
Result: Failed
Nissan Consult 4
Some of the newer Nissan can be done obd2 with a bypass cable, it was 2023 or under. But that cable won’t work on some 2024/2025 models.
This is a car that can only be done with Nissan Consult, possibly only with Consult 4.
User report:
” I recently did a 2024 Pathfinder. The 40 pin cable isn’t enough. I ended up using Consult and Topdon J2534. Consult did not ask for NASTF credentials. “
