Problem:
Work on a Land rover 2018 RFA 9s12XEQ384 secured module. Trying to read data using xhorse multi prog.
After updating the tool, find the connection method and managed to read the chip but it was locked. Unfortunately It wouldn’t Unlock. Multiprog reports error chip crack failed.
Solution:
Make sure you select secured option instead of unsecured RFA.
To read on bench like that without the adaptors you’ll need to remove the crystal from the board and connect as a secured RFA it will read then.
It’s old school way to do the RFA modules as when they brought out the adapter that removed the need to remove the crystal.
Secured RFA will show a different connection. If is locked need to remove the capacitor and crystal.
Follow the diagram for secured, it will tell you to remove the crystal, use hot air if you have or you can use the soldering iron with heat shrink end on just be careful not to get too hot.
Use hotgun 300′ C heat the motherboard from below too.
Crystals need to be put back on again. But they’re very sensitive and sometimes go bad. So have some spares for if the module doesn’t work after the rebuild.
You have to try and try again to be good.
If don’t need to solder this module, use the KVM solder free adapter.
