GM ACDelco E69 ECM will likely not get covered by many tools. only Flex, Kess v3, Ktag and foxflash do a good job with E69.
Ktag/Kess V3:
Original Ktag/kess v3 has a Service Mode protocol that allows you to read, write and clone dozens of gasoline vehicles of the General Motors group, equipped with the ECU Bosch ME9.6 and ME9.6.1.
The Service Mode gives you the opportunity to intervene on the ECU, without ever having to open it. Operations like recalibrations, repairing, cloning and backup of the ECU get much easier and daily. Even complex remapping becomes the order of the day. You can offer your customers faster and more efficient services.
Foxflash:
Foxflash is the cheapest tool to read, write and clone E69 ECM (unencrypted).
For example: this is an ACDelco E69 ECM, the Boash part number is 0261S02773, it’s a MED9.6.1 ECU.
Get the foxflash software installed and activated, launch the foxflash manager. Select Car OBD driver.
In this case for the E69 we can get it under Cadillac->SRX. It is ME9.6.1 and we can do this over CAN BUS.
By the way here uses the E69 ECM breakout cable rather than bench cable (read it via OBD on bench). It’s OEM plug OEM OBD port and we’ve got an ignition switch power switch so it cuts spower to the ECM. it does not cut power to your device connected there to the OBD port and it is detachable the power supply comes with everything you see here your power supply might vary in shape.
You can click the info button to view a diagram or check diagram on pdf.
Everything’s hooked up properly. We have connected right now to the foxflash. We can hit get ID if all that is correct.
It should pull the information basic information for the ECM such as VIN number, different software levels that are on the ECM as well.
so we know communication is good at this point. Then backs it up and all in one you hit read file.

It’s going to start reading. It reads the whole. It backs up pretty much the whole unit.
It’s not separate such as the eeprom and then the flash it’s all one unit it’s a complete backup.
We are able to edit the file and change the VIN number if that’s necessary and then we can write it back to the ECM.
Turn off the breakout box. Open up the file. Search VIN number of this ECM.
Line 1000 stores the VIN number.
Change that VIN number. We can just overwrite it to the VIN that we need to Target. As you can see the number starts with a 5 in this case and we’ve got it in this file name ‘E69’.
Go back to Foxflash software, open that file and write it to the ECM.
It’s going to overwrite the entire ECM flash area. Turn the power on the breakout box and this is also connects to the internet.
This was the original VIN on the unit.
Press get ID after write VIN to the ECM. This is the new VIN changed to 5G AK.
Then you can check and decode the VIN with a scanner.
Done.
